A Business to Charity Caring Campaign – Eastern Mountain Sports

Supporting You, as You Support Others:

Eastern Mountain Sports proudly offers gear, apparel, and advice you can depend on to help you enjoy your favorite outdoor sport. At the store level, the Annapolis EMS location supports two primary organizations – Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC), and the AACO Chapter of Special Olympics. Specifically their kayak and ski teams.

Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center

The mission of the Wildfowl Trust of North America, Inc. and its physical site, the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, is to promote stewardship and sustainability through environmental education and habitat restoration. Their official mission statement is pretty straightforward. It is all about promoting environmental education to as many people as they can reach. Their employees and many volunteers are incredibly passionate and selfless in their pursuit to live up to the words written above. The grandeur of the natural environment is only matched by the beauty of the people who work every day to preserve it for the use of others. The property itself is quintessential Chesapeake Bay. It embodies what the land use to offer to those who sought comfort there as well as those who made a living plying its waters.

The EMS Annapolis staff have been proud to be part of their mission and aid in their good work. They have helped with service projects on site, raised money on their behalf and run their EMS kayak school from their shores.

 Special Olympics

“The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for persons eight years of age and older with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.”

“We, here at EMS Annapolis, have supported the folks at SO for several years. It began when some of the athlete’s parents came to us looking for snowshoes for their winter team to train and race in. Since that time, we have provided logistical assistance in transporting their fleet to events, helped raise money on their behalf and provided discounts on the gear that their members need in order to train and compete successfully.”

The folks that keep the program going are a group of passionate volunteers that believe everyone deserves a chance to be an athlete. They are parents, siblings, aunts and uncles all of whom are focused on giving those that don’t always enjoy what you and I may take for granted – a chance to be vibrant and productive members of their community.
